New Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Programme Underway!

We’re delighted to announce that Cricket Builds Hope has begun a new programme, using cricket for social good.

In September, we launched an Adolescent Sexual Health Programme that will give children aged 11-15, from the nearest school to Gahanga stadium, critical knowledge on topics including sexuality, their rights, contraception and sexual health. This will tackle ongoing issues of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections in the community. The programme will run with three cohorts over the next year, covering over 170 children.

Our expert local partners, Health Development Initiative (HDI), are delivering workshops with the children on these crucial topics, with CBH coaches following up with fun cricket sessions that also reinforce the key messages. In our first session, children learned about their sexual rights before playing ‘claim your rights’ a game that involves throwing at stumps that have the rights written on them. As you can see from the photos, the children found this both engaging and educational!

CBH Director Will Hammond said: “We know that teenage pregnancies and infections including HIV+ are still a real issue, and that children in Gahanga lack access to the basic knowledge needed to make healthy decisions in this regard. By working with children this age, we have the greatest chance of ensuring that they may informed and healthy choices and have a platform for a bright future.”
