Will Hammond

Director

Will joined Cricket Builds Hope in February 2022. He has a professional background in management consulting and transformation in the public sector. He is passionate about social impact and has experience working for a children’s charity in Kenya. An avid cricket fan, he toured Rwanda and played at the Gahanga cricket stadium in 2018.

Joseph Karemera

Country Manager

Joseph is a medical doctor who also has rich experience in Cricket development as an ICC qualified coach. He is moved by how much cricket brings people together, overcoming adversity whilst installing hope to the young generation. Joseph is responsible for developing and overseeing CBH’s social programmes in Rwanda.  

Delphine Mukarurangwa 

Lead Community Coach 

Delphine is a former women’s cricket national player with a background in law. She has been a part of Cricket Builds Hope since 2018. She is passionate about using cricket to empower young people and drive positive social change. 

Justine Mugabo 

Lead English Teacher 

Justin holds a qualification in Education and has been actively volunteering with various organizations since 2016, with a consistent focus on supporting communities. He is passionate about empowering young people through education, creative activities, and sports. A keen runner, he also holds an ICC Foundation Coaching Certificate, reflecting his commitment to using sports as a tool for development. 

Mugisha Anselme 

Community Coach 

Anselme is an ICC Certified Coach with elite-level experience. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration and Local Governance, demonstrating his commitment to leadership and community development. As a Community Coach, he is passionate about transformation and continues to impact lives and strengthen communities through the power of sport.

Ange Nicole Igihozo

Community Coach 

Nicole has a Bachelor's degree in Applied statistics in Actuarial Science.  Although a statistician, she has experience in umpiring and has attained a level 1 ICC and level 3 CSA umpiring. She is passionate about changing the community through cricket.

JONATHAN AGNEW MBE

BBC TMS lead presenter Jonathan Agnew, better known as ‘Aggers’, is the voice of cricket on the radio having joined the BBC Test Match Special team in 1991. Formerly a first class cricketer for Leicestershire, and capped for England Test and One Day teams, Aggers was a founding patron of the charity when it was launched in 2011.

HEATHER KNIGHT OBE

World Cup winning England captain Heather Knight is an all-rounder who made her international debut in 2010. She became captain in 2016 and lifted the Women’s World Cup at Lord’s a year later. Heather has visited Rwanda a number of times to coach cricket and became a patron of the charity in 2014.

Brian Lara

West Indian cricketer Brian Lara is one of the greatest batsmen of all time. He still holds numerous records, including highest individual score in a Test match (400 not out) and highest individual score in a first class match (501 not out). He visited Rwanda in 2009 and was a founding patron of the charity when it set up in 2011.

EBONY RAINFORD-BRENT

Director of Surrey Women’s Cricket Ebony Rainford-Brent is a broadcaster and podcaster, as well as being a World Cup winner. After captaining Surrey women and playing for England, she retired in 2011 and worked for cricket charity Lord’s Taverners. Ebony became a patron of Cricket Builds Hope in 2018.

SAM BILLINGS

Wicketkeeper batsman Sam Billings is the captain of the Oval Invincibles - the most successful Hundred team ever - and an England international in Test, One Day and T20 formats. He became a patron of Cricket Builds Hope in 2017 after playing in the inaugural Cricket Builds Hope tournament at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium in Kigali.

MAKHAYA NTINI

Retired South African fast bowler Makhaya Ntini is one of the country’s best loved sportsmen. He was the first black cricketer to play for South Africa, and reached a hundred Tests. He travelled to Rwanda in 2015 for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Gahanga Cricket Stadium and became a patron of the charity shortly afterwards.

 

OUR TRUSTEES

Tim Law

Tim became chair of CBH in 2025. He is Deputy Director of a human rights charity, a veteran of military service and a trustee of two other non-profit organisations. Tim brings humanitarian, cricket and board experience, together with a passion for the value of sport in sustainable development.

Baroness Natalie Evans

Natalie is a Conservative peer in the House of Lords. She was Leader of the House of Lords and a Cabinet member in the Theresa May and Boris Johnson administrations, - the longest serving Leader for 70 years. Since leaving Government Natalie has taken on a number of Senior Advisory and Board roles including with the London Marathon Foundation.

GRAEME LOTEN

Graeme is a retired diplomat, who served as British Ambassador to Rwanda and Burundi from 1998-2001. He is the Treasurer of CBH.

ALAN SENDOREK

Alan is a communications and corporate reputation expert who has worked in politics, sport and private equity. He previously worked for QPR FC on their new stadium and training ground projects and as a Special Adviser to David Cameron in 10 Downing Street and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

ED Pearson

Ed became a trustee in 2024 having served as as Project Director for RCSF between 2013 and 2015 and has also worked as a teacher. He is now Director of a learning design company based in Cambridge. He is passionate about harnessing the power of sport as a tool for development.

CHARLIE BARLOW

Charlie is a former private and investment banker, turned entrepreneur. After working for the likes of Morgan Stanley and HSBC, he founded pioneering telehealth company Health at Hand in 2016, focusing on improving the access to primary healthcare for the under-served populations of the Emerging Markets. Charlie has a passion for both Africa and cricket, and regularly turns out for his local village team, Appleshaw CC, in Hampshire.

SARAH LUDLOW

Sarah is a Partner at Portland Communications. Prior to this she was a Special Adviser to the Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss. She first visited Rwanda in 2009 as part of the Conservative Party Social Action project, Project Umubano. 

John McCreery

John is a former management consultant in the energy sector.  He has been a trustee since 2023 and CBH combines a life long passion for cricket and using sport for development.   

RICHARD MEDDELTON

Richard was a career commercial banker who now runs his own consulting practice helping businesses to grow as well as holding several trustee roles in the charities and education sectors. A keen, amateur when it comes to sports, Richard has been a CBH Trustee since spring 2022.

MARY MAINA

Mary is a former captain of Rwanda’s women’s national cricket team and a social-impact entrepreneur. After leading inclusive jobs and youth programs with USAID, she founded KONTENT to deliver high-impact events, training, and market-driven development across East Africa. She specialises in gender, youth, and disability inclusion - and champions women’s cricket through commentary, life skills capacity building for athletes and advocacy - locally and internationally.
